Rennes les Bains is an old health resort. The Phoenicians and the Romans used water from the many different sources for spas.
From the late 1700s and around 1900 the village had its golden age.
There are hot springs at 32-51o and sources with different mineral content. The sources and the many minerals in the mountains around Rennes les Bains is the reason why the many alchemists in the Middle Ages stayed here and in neighboring cities. In particular, some sources with a content of gold has been interesting.
If you come to Rennes les Bains in the summer, your first impression is a lot of people, life, culture, music, .... Salz River, which flows through the quiet village. But it may also be different. The area is steeped in duality not only in thinking, but also in the nature. Aude Area is home of Catharismen. The Cathare had a more original conception of Christianity and this led to the Albigensian Crusade, led by the Pope and the French king.
Rennes les Bains is also a neighbor of Rennes Le Chateau, well known to many, but by Dan Brown's novel "Da Vinci Mystery" it was even more known than the village was before.
